About 100,000 people are expected to attend the Texas SandFest in Port Aransas this weekend, which will feature extravagant sand sculptures.
Professional sculptors from all over the world will be competing in the event, which takes place Friday through Sunday. Artists say the sand and the community in Port Aransas make it one of the best places in the world to sculpt.
"It's a great place. The weather is great. It's perfect for it," sand sculptor Sean Fitzpatrick said. "The sand is perfect, from an artist standpoint. You've really got a great medium to work with. You've got a chance to really show off your skills in the sand."
There is a $5 admission to enter the sculpture area, and the funds that are raised will go toward scholarships for local students and community arts.
