The City of Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend Green Built Association announced Thursday their new Water Smart Design home certification program.

The announcement was made at a new home in the 7600 block of Rancho Vista that incorporated some important water saving elements, like a touchless kitchen faucet.

"You will see a big savings," said Bart Braselton of the Coastal Bend Green Built Association. "You'll see a reduction in the amount of water and gas you use, and you will save more electricity."

"This is about green technology," Mayor Nelda Martinez said. "Also about conservation and our most precious resource, conserving water."

Martinez added that incorporating water saving appliances and fixtures like low-flow shower heads will save money for the homeowner.
