Nick Anderson doubled and tripled to help Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to an early 5-2 lead, but Southeastern Louisiana rode a pair of Taylor Schwaner home runs to score the final six runs of the game and salvage an 8-5 win in Sunday's finale.
The Islanders (13-20, 5-7) were looking for the sweep after clinching the series victory with wins on Friday and Saturday. For five innings, all was going to plan for the Blue and Green as the Islanders held a 5-2 lead at the halfway point.
Momentum shifted when Southeastern Louisiana (20-12, 8-7) head coach Matt Riser was ejected in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on the corners and just one out, the Lions escaped a jam and the SLU dugout awoke for the first time this weekend.
The next half inning, Schwaner uncorked the first of his two opposite field shots. The Lion third baseman took the first pitch he saw from Islanders starter Devin Skapura and deposited it beyond the right field wall. The shot ignited the Lions and Southeastern never ceded the momentum.
SLU scored once more in the frame to tie the game. The next inning, the Lions struck again to take their first lead of the day. Schwaner scored the go-ahead marker after getting hung up between third and the plate. The Islanders had Schwaner dead to rights, but the ball popped loose on the slide.
An error would allow Southeastern to plate their second of the inning, staking a 7-5 lead. Schwaner would make it 8-5 with his second homer of the day in the eighth inning.
David Worrell (1-3) was saddled with the loss for the Islanders. The right-hander was charged with a pair of runs, one of which was unearned, without allowing a hit. Worrell walked one and hit another line in the decisive seventh inning.
Skapura last five innings and was tagged for five runs, four earned, on seven hits. The senior was in control through five with the three-run lead, but Southeastern Louisiana solved the puzzle in the sixth with three straight hard-hit balls to chase the righty.
>> Dawson Yates, Nick Anderson and Itchy Burts all had two-hit days to lead the Islanders.
>> Jozwiak had a pair of RBI while Burts and Harrison DiNicola added one each.
The Islanders return to action Tuesday with a non-conference tilt against Houston Baptist. Following the midweeker, the Islanders head to Lamar for a three-game set beginning on Thursday.
