Refugio's remarkable run following hurricane Harvey came to a disappointing close Wednesday with the Bobcats falling to fellow state powerhouse Mart 34-21 in the 2A-I State Championship.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early 14-0 lead on a pair of Jared Kelley touchdown passes, but couldn't hold off the Panthers with Mart rallying for 21 straight points to end the first half.

Refugio's offense couldn't get it going again until the fourth, with Kelley finding Jake Tinsman in the endzone to cut the lead to 28-21. The Panthers would answer back on the following drive to ice the game and the championship.

Refugio's season not only included Harvey devastating the town and several players' homes, but also losing receiver and defensive back Casey Henderson to a broken neck back in September. Henderson was on the sidelines for the game and has only recently started walking again through a through a tough rehabilitation process.
