Topic:   Breakfast Fund Raiser by Corpus Christi Citizens Police Academy

You like waffles and a good cause. The Corpus Christi Citizens Police Academy Alumni will be hosting an ‘all you can eat’ waffle breakfast for $5 this coming Saturday morning from 8 to 11 at the First Christian Church located at 3401 Santa Fe. Near Dodgeridge. In addition to good food, the police will be etching VIN numbers on cars and fingerprinting children. As you may recall, the CCCPAA helped us along with KIII-TV and Lone Star Shredding with the shred day event. By the way. People have asked: “When is the next shred day?” It will be in October.

Topic:   Illegal Telemarketing Calls from Warranty Companies Plague the Area

It's happening to almost everyone: your phone rings, and the caller is a computerized voice selling car warranties. Sound familiar? That would be bad enough, except that now the callers don't care if you're on the Do Not Call list and don't care if your phone is a cell phone! And it doesn’t matter if you drive an old clunkered or no car at all. The BBB has logged more than 20,000 complaints about these computerized calls.

People seem to be chosen at random, by a computer number generator. That means the calls will come even if you are on the National Do Not Call list or have a cell phone. In either case it violates various federal and state laws.

This is the latest incarnation of a marketing pitch that used to show up in the form of a post card from third party extended warranty companies. So what can you do if they call? Don't talk to them. The recording typically gives you an option to stop receiving calls, don't sign up for their No Call list. Instead, try to capture their number through your Cell Phone's call log or your home phone's Caller ID, and report them to the Federal Trade Commission. Should you buy their warranty? Absolutely not, because calling cell phones is illegal, and you don't know what other law breaking they may do. Can't Anyone Stop Them? Yes, but only if people complain.
