Money Minute report, 5pm, April 9, 2007

The internet is not just for research any more. You can actually file your Taxes on-line, and more people are doing just that!  It's fast. It's easy. And it's electronic! Experts say the fastest way to file your tax return and get a refund back quickly, if you qualify, of course, is to "e-file".   Last year more than 73 million people did just that.  You can do it on your own or with a qualified tax preparer.  Many people use commercially available software, which leads them step-by-step through the tax preparation process.  At the end, when the returns are complete, the software electronically transmits the returns to the I.R.S. The system uses secure transmission technology so your personal information Isn't viewable by prying eyes. The I.R.S says it has processed more than 400 million e-filed returns and never had a security breach. Another advantage of the system: you can file your return today. And, if you have taxes due, pay nothing until April 17th. If you're getting a refund, The I.R.S. says you'll have the cash in-hand less than two weeks after e- filing.

  • Yes. I will support the closure.
