Top Pick Mark Appel Set For Debut With Hooks

The #1 pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft will make his Double A debut on Wednesday night at Whataburger Field.

Mark Appel will toe the rubber for the Corpus Christi Hooks in hopes of  improving on a short, unnoteworthy stay at Class A Lancaster, where he compiled a 2-5 record and a 9.74 ERA in 12 starts for the JetHawks.

Appel, who earned a degree in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford in just 3 1/2 years, was selected 8th in the 2012 draft, but opted to return to pitch for the Cardinal. The Astros took him #1 overall in June 2013.
