A big change coming to Parkdale Plaza. Back in 1957, it was a big deal, the city's first major shopping center. Now of course. Most of the merchants have gone. But it looks likeParkdale Plaza, on S. Staples nearEverhart will come to life again as the site of a new Wal-Mart super-store.

It is a property that has definitely seen better days. Part of it has been marred by fire, forcing it to be condemned by the city. And one by one businesses have shut down.

But as of Friday afternoon,  the owner of the property, a company called Quick Company out of Austin has inked a deal to make Wal-Mart  the major tenant of this property.  Everything between Wendy's and Sutherland's will be torn down to build the new 200-thousand square foot supercenter. The existing businesses owners are being told they will be allowed to relocate within this new shopping center development in a new strip center building that will be built next to the Wal-Mart.

City staff say this deal should be appearing before theCity Council at some point in April.

In the meantime, Wal-Mart is not stopping with building just one more supercenter here in Corpus Christi. The company is working with residents living near Timbergate and Staples to build another one there.

A meeting to discuss concerns for that new store will be taking place inMay with those impacted being notified of the time and date by mail and phone.
