Crosstown Commons Approved

Jeremy Landers

(June 27, 2007)
The Crosstown Commons project has been given the green light by city council members.
Just before midnight, the council agreed to allow the developers of Crosstown Commons to build it's 300 million dollar lifestyle project focusing on high end retail shops.
The council's decision did not sit well with Trademark Property company representatives.
They are in negotiations to buy Padre Staples mall.
They have a 200 million dollar re-development plan for the mall but with this deal being approved, it's C.E.O. Terry Montes says they probably won't be coming to Corpus Christi now.
"I don't see how we do anything here when they can take 2 acres they can take an acre and a couple of hundred thousand feet just annihilate that mall with taxpayer money just doesn't make any sense to me. I've never seen anything like it in any community in this country nobody in the industry has ever seen anything like this" says Montes.
But Jeff Hess, C.E.O. Of Hawkins Companies says they're ready to go.
"I think the motion to approve the financing agreement temporarily is a way to
look at the motions and put them into effect. The next step is to get this T.I.F. agreement put together formally."
The Crosstown Commons developers told 3 News they are speaking with Dillards about moving from Padre Staples mall over to their new development.
