Shawn Miller is not happy. He's just found out from the police that he is supposed to make sure that people who rent his mopeds have a moped license. A regular drivers license won't work. Miller owns Adventure Moped Rentals in the 400 block of Shoreline,"There is a gray area because there was a lot of confusion but like I said I contacted every single transportation committee member, Representative and Senator they are the ones who make the legislative statues they said, not me I didn't know just like the officer didn't know. " Senior Officer John Elliott says there is no gray area the law is clear. "In order to ride a moped on the street you'd have to have a moped endorsement that's the minimum."
Miller maintains that you don't need one, "They said the law is written vague regarding rental mopeds they said as long as you have a valid drivers license and obey the law the police have no reason to stop you so i'm not concerned or worried about anything. so you're going to continue to rent of course."
Officer Elliott says if he does and they catch an unlicensed driver on one of his mopeds, everyone's going to get a ticket,"Two people can be cited one if you're operating the vehicle without the proper license and second of all being the business owner that's renting them out he could also be cited for not assuring they had the right license."
