2014 DWI, DUI Arrests Up 32-Percent Since Last Year

As of July 2, the Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section reports that there have 764 arrests involving driving while intoxicated in 2014 so far -- a 32-percent increase since last year.

By July 2, 2013, there had been 576 DUI arrests for the year, and by the end of the year there were a total of 1,203 arrests.

Below is a breakdown of DWI and DUI cases worked by Corpus Christi Police Department officers this year so far:

757 D.W.I. Arrests as of July 2, 2014
7 D.U.I. Arrests as of July 2, 2014
250 Suspects consented to give a sample of their breath
187 Suspects consented to give a sample of their blood
313 Suspects refused to give a sample of breath or blood and a search warrant was obtained
7 Suspects refused both blood and breath request, and no evidence was obtained
69 Felony DWI cases files as of July 2, 2014
38 for DWI with two or more prior convictions
13 for intoxicated assault
15 DWI with Child Passenger
3 intoxicated manslaughter
.17 Average Breath /Blood results from suspects
177 DWI arrest were involved in Traffic Crashes

The CCPD wants to remind everyone to designate a driver before consuming alcoholic beverages; and a warning from police -- a phlebotomist will be on hand this holiday weekend to help expedite blood draws.
