A story now about giving back, when you don't necessarily have to. Inspired by an ABC series, that ran earlier this year, called Oprah's Big Give, a Corpus Christi mother decided on behalf o her youngest son to do something special for others, and teach others it is better to give rather than get.
"Zamar is the best little baby in the whole world," said Zamar's mother Liza Wisner. "This little baby is sooo perfect."
Like a lot of doting mothers she adores her two children. The oldest is 2, Zaleik. Liza says says Zamar will grow right on into all of Zaleik's things, and there's not a need for all new stuff when there's so many children who do with out.
Liza says she was watching Oprah's Big Give on ABC in March of this year when the idea came to her. To mark Zamar's milestone of 6 months on July 3rd, she'll hold a party, but instead of gifts people can make donations to CASA of the Coastal Bend. CASA, a non profit agency, serves kids who are stuck in the foster care system. CASA stands for court appointed special advocates.
"It's our volunteers job is to work with kids with the foster care system, and help move them through the system quickly," said Page Hall, CASA's Executive Director. "We're looking to shorten the kids time they spend in the foster care system."
There were some 1,000 children in Foster care last year from Nueces County. CASA served many of them.
So, here's what Liza in her son's name is doing to help out CASA.
Zamar's Little Give is scheduled for Saturday, July 5th from 3pm-5pm at
7326 New Brunswick Dr.
There are also drop of locations where folks can take donations before July 5th
*2602 Prescott
*6300 Ocean Drive
*7326 New Brunswick Drive
They hope to change lives of foster children right here in Corpus Christi.
They've come up with a list of things that these CASA kids might need like diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, stuffed animals, unwrapped toys or a $5 gift card to anywhere.
