25th Annual State Crime Stoppers Conference at Omni Hotel

In Texas alone, there are over 600 Crime Stoppers hotlines set up to receive tips that help catch criminals. Many of those behind the operation were in town Wednesday.

It was the 25th annual State Crime Stoppers Convention, which Kiii-3 proudly sponsors, and over 350 crime fighters gathered for the three-day convention. It was held at the Omni Hotel, and 3News Anchor John-Thomas Kobos helped to kick things off at noon.

Many who showed up for the conference are taking part in workshops where problems like human trafficking will be discussed.

"People are coming in to learn how to better run their boards. How to better run Crime Stoppers in their communities," Crime Stoppers Chairperson Audrey Vicknair said. "And then our peace officers are also attending the conference to earn education hours."

Most Crime Stoppers programs are always looking for more money, and that is why the use of social media for fundraising is going to be a workshop that most are looking forward to at this years conference.

Those who made it to the event had to cover their own travel and hotel expenses.
