Nesting season has gotten off to a good start for the Kemp's Ridley sea turtle. We discovered that Thursday, as we witnessed conservation work in action. Marine biologists excavated a nest and removed 72 eggs to incubate and later release the hatch lings into the Gulf of Mexico.

The turtle's nesting season usually runs from April through July or August. State wildlife officials ask the public to refrain from
disturbing nesting turtles. Instead, they ask the public to report
the sighting to 1-866-TURTLE5. Also use caution and don't speed when driving on the beach.
