A strong Coastal Bend presence could be felt in Austin on Tuesday. On the steps of the capitol more than 200 people rallied against legislation that if left unchanged could hit this area with a steep insurance rate increase.

Buses left in the morning, and by the noon on the south steps of the capitol coastal residents fanned out determined to stand up to a senate approved windstorm bill.

Doing nothing for windstorm insurance this legislative session isn't an option. Hurricane Ike and Dolly wiped out the state's Windstorm Insurance Fund. Yet, Gulf Coast lawmakers are fearful of an uncontrolled insurance cost, a cost that would be the burden of just the 14 counties along the coast.

  • No. Keep it as a city department.
  • I don't know.
