Members of the Nueces County Medical Society gathered outside the Del Mar Center for Economic Development this Friday. They were on hand to show support for their colleagues inside, presenting their opposition to the construction of "las Brisas" plant. This was another opportunitty for the medical community to express their concerns over the communities health while the city continues to lobby for the plant in hopes of creating jobs and increasing their tax roles. Doctor Wesley Stafford, a local immunologist, says "if they build las brisas and we increase the level of pollution, we're dealing with another eighty two percent that is just gonna get worse and that is the real concern".The company that wants to build the plant says emissions will be minimal and far below the E.P.A. standards. Another week of hearings is scheduled before the commission on enrvironmental quality makes a decision on wether to "issue" or "deny" a construction permit.
