AEP Awards Del Mar College for Energy Efficient Projects

Going green is really paying off for Del Mar College and Tuesday the board of regents found out just how much they are saving.

"AEP has a program called 'Commercial Solutions Program,' which provides cash incentives for energy efficient projects," Ryan Smith Program Consultant said. "Last year for this project, 297-kwh was saved from this project which resulted in a check for over $40,000 for this project right here."

The check was actually for $45,000.

The money earned courtesy of a 1,200 ton water chiller that was installed on campus back in 2011. The device helps control the campus' air condition system.

The difference in energy consumption determined the exact amount of the rebate.

No word yet on what the money will be used for.
