Air Force Mom Returns Home to Surprise Her Children

It was a holiday surprise one family won't soon forget.

A Rockport mother who happens to be an Air Force Tech Sergeant has been deployed overseas for months, but now she is finally back home.

On Monday, she decided to surprise her daughters at school.

It is never easy for the men and women who defend our country to leave their families behind.

"Skype is a wonderful thing. We are grateful to have it, but it's ultimately not," Air Force Tech Sergeant Felicia Cypress said between tears. "You just do what you can."

For Cypress, things have not been easy. She has been in the Air Force for over twelve years. This year alone, she was deployed for six months overseas in the United Arab Emirates, but before coming back she wanted to make her homecoming special for her two daughters.

"I told her that I wanted to go to my kids' school and surprise them," Cypress said.

Her sister took it upon herself and planned a surprise reunion. In fact, Cypress actually arrived in Rockport Sunday night, but in order to keep the surprise intact, she stayed at a hotel.
"It was difficult being so close, but I couldn't touch them, couldn't see them, couldn't call them," Cypress said. "My mom directed me not to touch base with them."

On Monday morning, Felicia headed to Rockport-Fulton Middle School to surprise her oldest daughter at school. Her daughters were not expecting to see their mother until the day before Thanksgiving.

Cypress waited anxiously for her daughter to get out of the lunch line, and as soon as 11-year old Destiny saw her mother, she ran into her arms.

"I'm still shocked," Destiny said. "I don't know what to say right now."

Earlier in the day, Cypress surprised her nine-year old daughter, Jordin, at her school. She was still in shock to see her mother home.

"I am more than happy," Jordin said. "I am excited and I cant wait to do all the Thanksgiving things with her."

"I have missed her sooo much, so so much," Destiny said.

"At the end of the day, I miss my family, and I'd do it again," Cypress said. "I would deploy again any time. Being deployed definitely gave me gratification on why I wear the uniform every day."

Cypress and her daughters have something to truly be thankful for this holiday season.
