Alamo Heights Stages "Lights Out" Rally to Shock Moody 3-2

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - Alamo Heights staged an unusual rally to beat heavily-favored Moody in Game 1 of their Best-of-Three playoff series at Whataburger Field.

Moody took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 4th inning on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Brandon Cantu.

It was 2-1 Trojans in the top of the 6th inning when the lights went out during a pitch by Moody's Kenneth Saenz. A pennant attached to a metal pole apparently blew on to wires and shorted-out the entire bank of lights at the ballpark.

Players and fans waited in the dark for 20 minutes as the lights slowly blinked back on.

Down 2-1, Alamo Heights scored the tying run on a bases-loaded walk by Moody starter Kenneth Seanz, but missed out on a chance to take the lead when third baseman Ricky Gonzalez and catcher Michael Cantu team up on a 5-2 double play to end the inning.

After Moody failed to score in the bottom of the 7th, the teams headed to extra innings. Alamo Heights' Colin Vazquez delivered what turned out to be the game-winning single as the Mules beat Moody 3-2 to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Games 2 & 3 (if needed) will be played tomorrow at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio beginning at 3pm. KIII will have highlights and post game reaction during the 6pm & 10pm newscasts on Saturday.
