Alcorta's Folklorico Performs to Preserve Mexican Dance Culture

Alcorta's Folklorico, a local dance company, is aiming to preserve the Mexican culture through dance, music and costume. They performed their inolvidable show for a student matinee Friday morning in Del Mar College's Richardson Auditorium.

Samuel Alcorta, the director of the dance company, said it's important for the community to continue to support the Mexican dance culture.

"It's really important to teach these traditions to our youth because they're the ones who are going to keep preserving it. If we don't teach it to them, our traditions are going to stop," Alcorta said. "There's still so much rich culture and heritage that we're able to bring here to this city through Mexican folklorico, and when people are able to see that they are able to travel without having to physically go somewhere."

The group will also be performing at an evening gala at Del Mar College at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets range from $10 to $25 and can be purchased at the Del Mar Richardson Auditorium box office or by calling 361-698-2226.
