Alice Insurance Adjuster Warns of Contractor Scams

The City of Alice suffered tremendous damage following last week's tornado -- an EF1 that knocked down trees, caused widespread outages and did an estimated $1.2 million in damage to commercial properties.

The cost of the damage done to residential homes is still being calculated, and now, an insurance adjuster wants to warn people in Alice so that they do not find themselves being preyed upon in their time of need.

Kiii News Reporter Mike DaSilva spoke with that adjuster on Tuesday and came back with the details.

Tips for homeowners include not giving money up front to contractors who come knocking at your door, even if they say it's for supplies; do not pay anybody in cash, and instead pay by check or money order.

In coming days, the City of Alice will be submitting forms to the governor of Texas seeking assistance, and for those who received some initial aid but the help has run out, you are encouraged to contact the Emergency Management Office in Alice by calling 361-664-3111.
