SEGUIN, TX (Kiii Sports) - The Aransas Pass Panthers probably couldn't have imagined a more gut-wrenching way to end their season, until that moment came Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers lost to Winnie East Chambers 53-52 in the region final after junior J.D. Gentry seemingly hit the game-winning shot with 2 seconds remaining after getting the feed from William Butler. The cheers from the AP crowd quickly turned to boos after they realized the shot had been called off after Butler was called for an offensive foul.
The referee ruled that East Chambers' Jared Lezak had position down low and drew the charge on the bang bang play. The Buccaneers then ran out the remaining 2 seconds to advance to the 2A state semifinals.
