Aransas Pass Falls to Ponder in State Semifinals

AUSTIN (Kiii Sports) - Aransas Pass was left wondering what might have been for the second straight year after controversial calls ended their run at a state title with a 51-47 loss to Ponder in the state semifinals in Austin.

Junior Kiki Hill was whistled for an over-the-back foul, which waved off his basket with just over a minute to go that would have given the Panthers the lead. The Lions were also awarded a timeout on a loose ball that tv replays showed should have been a traveling call.

Sophomore Colin Hale missed a would-be game-tying three pointer with just seconds to go on a final possession that took too long to develop for AP. Despite the miss, Hale lead the way for the Panthers with 12 points.

Aransas Pass's season ends at 33-8 while Ponder will take on Tatum for the 2A Championship Saturday.
