FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 21, 2008
At the call of County Judge Loyd Neal, the Nueces County Commissioners Court held an emergency preparedness meeting today at 10:00 a.m. Various elected officials, department heads, and county staff were present.
Weather forecasts indicate that Tropical Storm Dolly has crossed the Yucatan Peninsula and has entered the Gulf of Mexico. More recent forecasts indicate the storm may have a more northerly track than previously forecasted. The storm is expected to reach the level of a strong Category 1 or Category 2 Hurricane by the time of landfall, which is forecast somewhere along the middle to lower Texas coast for late Wednesday or early Thursday morning.
The public is advised if they have “special needs” and may require evacuation assistance to register by dialing 211, a 24 hour line. The public is asked to closely monitor weather reports and news broadcasts. Residents of Nueces County are further encouraged to begin reviewing their personal safety plans. More information will be provided when it becomes available.
