The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down, near the San Patricio County and Aransas County border. It touched down close to the city of Bayside.

The tornado hit just after 1 o'clock, near Highway's 1-88 and 1-36. The tornado touched down and then changed direction in a matter of seconds.

There was extensive damage. A mobile home was no match for the tornadic winds. No one was inside at the time it flipped over.

A number of steel structures were lifted off their foundations and then nearly destroyed. Debris was scattered through out the neighborhood, and trees were uprooted.

Eyewitnesses say they felt the pressure change inside their homes, and then they ran to the bathtubs for cover. They say the tornado only lasted for a few seconds.

But for many of the residents they will spend the next few days trying to get their lives re-organized.
