INGLESIDE--Some local residents from India are concerned about the terror attacks in their homeland. The attacks, apparently aimed at westerners, left at least 125 people dead, including at least three Americans and hundreds of others have been injured.
The terror attacks hit close to home as Americans and Western tourists were the targets. This morning, many Coastal Bend church leaders were praying for the victims. We found out they weren't the only ones worried.
Doctor Daksha Kalies of Ingleside watched television to get the latest reports on the India terror attacks. Media reports said Muslim militants targeted 10 sites across Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, the largest city in India.
Her parents, who still live there, were fine, but they explained the situation to her on the phone.
""My parents told me the situation is tense," said Dr. Kalies, an audiologist who has lived in the United States for 22 years. "There is some fear, but life will go on."
Dr. Kalies also is monitoring the news on the internet and calling her family. While most of the terror attacks happened in tourist areas in Central Mumbai, her family lives about 15 miles away from violence.
"The attacks were stewn all over Bombay so it's kind of hard to know if the person right next to you is a terrorist or not," Dr. Kalies said.. "So I was very glad or relieved to hear they were ok."
The terror attacks, included gunfire and explosion. One area devastated was the Taj Mahal Hotel. Dr. Kalies said it's sad to see what terrorists did.
"It is very beautful to behold," Dr. Kalies said, talking about the Taj Mahal Hotel. "It's a shame that people have absolutely no care for things that are of eternal beauty."
On a day of thanks and prayer in America, Dr. Kalies said her family in India only asked for one thing.
"One of the things my parents wanted my friends to do that inquire about them is to pray for them," said Dr. Kalies.
She said prayer is a way her homeland will recover from this terror attack.

We know the POWER of PRAYER....ours are with Dr. Kalies' family and the others who are being victimized. Such a shame the terrorist chose such a beautiful, peaceful area to destroy. Such a shame we have to deal with terrorist in the first place. Our prayers are for PEACE on EARTH and let it begin with us.
