ALICE--Law officers in Jim Wells County said an Alice man, who is under arrest in connection with a string of auto burglaries, has been tied to a new crime.

The man is only 18 years old, but he's no stranger to the law. Authorities said he was involved in a crime spree and may face more charges before it's over.

Jacob Garza was busted last Thursday for breaking into five cars in an Alice neighborhood. Police said he was caught hiding under a car just after committing the crimes.

While in jail, then sheriff investigators identified him from this surveillance tape using a stolen Lonestar card taken in an auto burglary in Orange Grove. He and two others went to Wal Mart, buying groceries and even getting $40 in cash from the card.

Today, he was served with another warrant for that crime.

"This was just before Thanksgiving," said Sgt. Johnny Perez of the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department. "That's when they did a rash of vehicle burglaries. This is the only one we can tie them to because of the video."

Tonight, Garza is in the Jim Wells County Jail being held on a $60,000  bond. Investigators said they're getting two other warrants to arrest the others involved in the crime.

Garza is currently on probation stemming from another car burglary case. Authorities said there's a good chance he's going to have his probation revoked.

Whoever gave him cash back on a "Lone Star" purchase needs to be arrested also.

will first of all it's different counties and that why his bond is different...Jim wells is a strict county... Corpus Christi don't care about anybody but the people who sit on the board..they are the one's that run this town no matter who speaks or votes their opinion.. Judge Saldana at that had a problem with woman just cuz she's gay.. So if she's the judge for the guy that stabbed him girlfriend 38 times he will get off.. just cuz she hates women that date men.

This guys bond is set at $60k, and the dude who stabs the girl 38 times gets a $35k bond. Why is it that only those posting these comments are capable of seeing the insanity inherent in our local legal system, and not the judges themselves? Shouldn't a physical act against another person merit a higher cost? Perhaps the value of human life is less in Corpus Christi.

Natural Gas

Should the city of Corpus Christi privatize its natural gas system or keep it under city ownership?

  • Yes. Sell it and let private business run it.
  • No. Keep it as a city department.
  • I don't know.
