Athletes Gather to Kick Off Special Olympics Texas' Spring Games

A press conference was held at CITGO Tuesday morning to kick off Special Olympics Texas' 31st annual Spring Games, which is set to take place April 5.

This year, the competition will be held at Cabaniss Field on Saratoga due to a renovation project at Flour Bluff High School.

Alice Fulton-Garza, area director for Special Olympics Texas, said the kids are training and are really excited about this weekend's competition.

"They are out there with their buddies," Fulton-Garza said. "They're seeing their friends that they haven't seen from last year's event. The families have an opportunity to network and come together."

The games begin with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday. This year marks CITGO's 21st anniversary as a Special Olympics Texas sponsor.
