Bagpipers Pay Visit to St. James Episcopal School

There were some special visitors at St. James Episcopal School on Wednesday afternoon; bagpipers, hoping to get students there interested in the art.

Corpus Christi firefighter and bagpiper Dan Sheppard, along with two other pipers and a drummer, stopped by St. James for a show-and-tell. They are hoping to peak the interest of the middle school students and get a bagpipe band started there.

The class would be held after school as an extracurricular activity.

Student were excited that their school could be the first in the area to have a bagpipe band.

"It just makes the school that much better, and more unique," eight-grader David Martin said.

"It's very exciting," eight-grader Jack Wallace said. "I think it's such a cool tradition to carry on to the rest of the school."

"Everybody seems really excited about that," the school's Headmaster Walter Spencer said. "Especially the drums. A lot of kids are excited about that."

If enough students sign up, the class will be up and running by the end of the month.
