Bee County Jailer Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Inmate's Property

A recently hired Bee County jailer was arrested Aug. 12 and placed in the jail he was once employed after confessing to authorities that he stole $80 from a Bee County Jail inmate's property.

It was Aug. 10 when it was discovered that the $80 had gone missing. Bee County Sheriff Carlos Carrizales Jr. ordered Lt. John Davis to investigate and after reviewing video footage, it was found that the person responsible for the theft was 19-year old jailer Angel Perez. Perez was questioned the next day, and according to the Bee County Sheriff's Department, confessed to the crime.

Perez had only been working at the Bee County Jail for about two months and was hired to address a shortage of jail staff. He was charged with theft, and although the amount that was stolen only counts as a Class B misdemeanor, Perez' charge was enhanced to a more serious Class A misdemeanor because he is a public servant.
