Bird Enthusiasts Spot Rare, Arctic Bird in Port Aransas

Dozens of bird enthusiasts in Port Aransas made an unusual sighting this weekend at Horace Caldwell Pier.

It might look like a regular seagull, but it's one that is typically not found in this area. It was a Black-Legged Kittiwake.

The bird is similar in size to the most common gull found around the Coastal Bend, the laughing gull. However, this bird is mainly found in arctic regions. So what is it doing here?

Bird experts said it is not usual for a bird to get knocked off course with a change in weather. There is no way to know if it will stay around for long.
