Bluff, G-P Advance to Region IV Soccer Tourney

Corpus Christi (kiii sports)- The Gregory-Portland Wildcats combined efficient defense with strong midfield play to roll past Mission and into the Region IV semifinals on Tuesday night.

Briann Guzmann, Maryssa Garza, Brittany Giles, and Brittney Gonzales all contributed goals in the Lady Wildcats 4-0 victory at the Cabaniss Field Soccer Complex.

G-P will now play Leader Vandegrift at 2pm Friday in the second of two Region IV semifinal games. It will be the 'Cats first appearance in the Regional Tournament since 2011.

Joining G-P in the semis will be Flour Bluff. The Hornet girls soccer team also flashed offensive firepower in its 5-1 win over Edcouch-Elsa on Tuesday evening in Alice.

Kelsey Trudeau scored the first Bluff goal just before the 5-minute mark and added another in the second half. Teammate Celia Martinez also picked up two scores. Elizabeth Horn also found the net.

The Hornets will face Leander Rouse in the opening game of the Region IV tournament at noon on Friday at the Cabaniss Field Soccer Complex.
