Book Capturing History of Life in Corpus Christi Released

Have you ever stopped to think about what life may have been like in Corpus Christi 150 years ago? Well, a new book has compiled the stories of people living in this city from 1850 through the early 1900s.

The book, titles "Recollections of Other Days," is a compilation of memoirs. Their stories are part of our South Texas history, and their legacy is the Texas we know today.

One of the book's editors worked at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times for years, and says that even though life was tougher back then, kids have too many options these days.

"The choices they have to make so much earlier than they used to have to make, and there's more pressure now then there used to be," Editor Murphy Givens said. "Lives were harder back then, but today, it's harder in different ways."

The book is available at several places, including Barnes and Noble, the Hamlin Pharmacy and online at
