FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

41 AREA STUDENTS RECEIVE MANO A MANO SCHOLARSHIPS

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –Aug. 25, 2008 -- The Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and its educational partners have awarded 2008 Mano A Mano Scholarships to 41 Coastal Bend students.

Mano A Mano scholarships provide financial assistance to students who attend or will attend Del Mar College, Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi or Texas A&M University – Kingsville.  The Hispanic Chamber scholarship program was developed with Flint Hills Resources and area institutions of higher learning to encourage students to continue their education locally and develop a well-trained, highly motivated workforce.

The CCHCC scholarship selection committee has worked diligently with area educators to raise awareness of the scholarship opportunity. More than 500 applications were received from students looking to further their education and remain in Corpus Christi.

“We believe this outstanding response demonstrates a commitment to higher education for our youth, said Rock Ruiz, board chairman of the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,  As a community we must do all we can to develop this emerging workforce in Corpus Christi.”
