CALALLEN (Kiii Sports) - Marcus "Ice" Price became the first ever Calallen Wildcat to take home the "Golden Pigskin" for BLITZ Play of the Year for his dual kick return touchdowns against Manvel in the 4A State Semifinals.
The voting was unanimous as BLITZ hosts Dan McReynolds and Chris Thomasson both selected the play as their favorite, as did YOU the fans with over 40% of the vote on our online poll.
Price's first return occurred in the first quarter with Calallen down 7-0. The Calallen speedster called off teammate Paul Castillo, caught the ball over his shoulder at the goal line and proceeded to go 100 yards right through the Mavericks' defense untouched.
"It was drifting to the left and I saw my friend call it off, and I was like, 'No, that's mine,'" Price said. "So I caught it and just saw two big holes and I just went through one of them."
The second one was even more impressive, coming in the third quarter after Manvel had just tied the game at 21. Price again took the kick over his shoulder and hugged the sideline, putting on an amazing juke move that eluded several Mavericks defenders before taking it to the house.
"I think the good Lord whispered in his ear as he ran down the sideline. That was an amazing run, it really was," Calallen Head Coach Phil Danaher said.
Calallen would go on to fall 31-28 to Manvel on a field goal with no time left on the clock. It's a game that won't soon be forgotten not only for the ending, but also for Marcus Price's dazzling of the crowd with his BLITZ-sized performance!
