Carroll Comes Back to Win Opener Over Victoria East

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - The Carroll Tigers are trying to prove to people they deserve the #4 ranking in Class 5A, and that started Monday with a 5-4 season-opening win over Victoria East.

The Tigers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 7th to secure the win at Whataburger Field. Carroll gave up the go-ahead run in the top of the inning before having to rally back for the win.

Coach Lee Yeager lost seven starters from last year's team including Courtney Hawkins who went 13th overall in the MLB draft to the White Sox, and number two pitcher O'Shea Dumes who now pitches for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Coach Yeager's group is inexperienced overall, but now has a late game atmosphere victory under their belt.
