CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - The saying made famous by wrestler Ric Flair was "to be the man, you've got to beat the man." Well, Carroll proved it's still "the man" after beating Sharyland 6-2 in the championship of the Mira's Baseball Classic at Whataburger Field.
The Tigers jumped on the Rattlers early with three runs in the 2nd innings and held on for the tournament win. Carroll also swept Sharyland last year in the region semifinals en route to their third straight state tournament appearance.
Carroll run-ruled Tuloso-Midway earlier in the day 14-1 in the semifinals. Carroll coach Lee Yeager bested his former assistant Mike Davila, who mans the dugout for the Warriors.
In the other semifinal, Sharyland knocked off Moody 3-0. The Rattlers got on the board in the 3rd when Luis Trevino hit a bases-loaded fly ball to left. Moody's J.D. Lozano appeared to make an amazing diving grab, only to have his glove slam into the ground and pop the ball out.
