CCISD State of the District to Benefit Education Foundation

The annual State of the District fundraiser for the Corpus Christi Education Foundation was held Thursday at the American Bank Center. This year's theme was "homecoming."

Teachers and staff dressed as coaches and student cheerleaders, and band members served, greeted and played for attendees as Corpus Christi Independent School District officials informed parents about the district and its future while raising money for the Foundation.

CCISD Superintendent Scott Elliff said technology is the key to the future.

"Making technology an integral part of teaching and learning. Not just giving 30 kids an iPad and having them all look at the same material, but teaching them how to use the technology to facilitate their own learning," Elliff said. "That's the only way we're going to be able to meet their individual needs, and the only way we're going to be able to get them ready for the workforce."

Proceeds from the event benefit the Education Foundation, which serves and supports the district and its students and educators through financial contributions and volunteer service.

The money also helps fund the annual Grants for World Class Schools, which are awarded to provide students with innovative programming in the classroom, including real-world, hands-on and unique educational experiences that would not otherwise be funded by the district.
