FROM THE CORPUS CHRISTI POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Chief of Police Troy Riggs made a promise to the citizens of Corpus Christi last year to take a strong stand against gang violence and a recent warrant sweep is proving to disrupt the operations of local street and prison gangs.
In the early morning hours of April 20, 2011, the Corpus Christi Police Department Gang Unit Patrol Officers, Narcotics and Vice Division, along with the Nueces County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the United States Marshals Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, Homeland Security Investigations, the Corpus Christi Independent School District Police Department, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, began serving arrest warrants. As of today, Officers have arrested numerous gang members on a multitude of charges including weapons violations, assaults, evading arrest, family violence, and probation and parole violations. Details will be announced during a news conference today, Thursday, April 21, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. in the CompStat room, on the fifth floor of Police Department Headquarters.
