CCPD Awards Personnel and Civilians Who Helped Save Lives

Some brave individuals were awarded by Corpus Christi Police Chief Floyd Simpson Thursday for putting their lives on the line to help others.

The awards were handed out to both police personnel and civilians at CCPD headquarters. Among those being honored was Lieutenant James Gray.

It was back in August when Gray jumped into action to help rescue a family from a house fire. The home was a total loss, but Gray's efforts helped save the lives of the eight people inside.

Jena and Thomas Bowman, the homeowners who Gray whose lives Gray saved, were in attendance at Thursday's ceremony.

"He saved our lives. We're here to honor him for that as he receives his award for saving our lives. Give him our appreciation," the couple said. "If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have our kids. So we're very thankful."

"I was glad I was at the right place, at the right time. God put me there," Gray said. "The little girls, we went a couple of weeks later and had pizza. I got a new family, new friends. It's a very good thing. It's very nice."

In all, nine people were honored with awards at Thursday's ceremony.
