Corpus Christi (kiii sports)- The John Paul II Centurions got solid pitching from Justin Quinonez as they gave their coach a meaningful playoff win on Wednesday.
Steve Castillo, who started the athletic program at John Paul II, did not have his contract renewed for next year. So win or lose, Wednesday would mark his final home game as baseball coach.
Quinonez & company played it tight early against Addison Trinity before Michael Garza singled in the first run of the game in the third. The Centurions would later take a 2-0 lead before winning 2-1.
John Paul II will now advance to round three of the playoffs with a road game against Plano Prestonwood.
