Ceremony Held to Honor TAMUCC's Retiring Dr. John "Wes" Tunnell

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi held a retirement reception to honor Dr. John "Wes" Tunnell, Jr., who has been with the Island University for 39 years.

Tunnell was instrumental in founding the Center for Coastal Studies and the Harte Research Institute. He has helped develop numerous degree programs from the bachelors level to doctoral programs.

He also helped with three university buildings, including the natural resources center, the Harte Research Institute and the Laguna Madre field station.

"Although I'm retiring, I'll be hanging around part-time continuing to do the things I really love, and then spending more time with my kids and grandkids, and traveling with my wife," Tunnell said.

Dr. Tunnell was a major part in creating an internationally recognized coral reef ecology research and teaching program.
