Citizens Police Academy Donates Equipment to CCPD

The Corpus Christi Citizens Police Academy Alumni had big donation for officers of the Corpus Christi Police Department on Thursday.

Members of the organization donated digital recorders, binoculars and cameras to the department.

The Citizens Police Academy is dedicated to raising money to help buy equipment for police officers that the department wouldn't normally furnish. Last year alone, they raised $14,000, and hope to raise more this year.

"These guys do so much work, and sometimes they work with so little," said Cheryl Daubs of the Citizens Police Academy. "Everybody knows money is tight everywhere, and if we can make their job easier, even more comfortable, we would like to do that also."

"Our manpower is short, and we have to do everything we can to make the men and women in the department function in a more efficient manner," CCPD Commander John Houston said. "And this equipment gives them the tools to do that."

The Citizens Police Academy is busy raising money for their 2012 donations. They have a golf tournament set for Oct. 22 at River Hills Country Club. If you would like to take part, just call 361-852-7572 for more information.
