City Approves First Reading of Hotel Tax Re-Appropriations

City Council approved a first reading of the re-appropriation of the hotel tax to fund renovations and improvements at the American Bank Center.

More than a half-million dollars of the hotel occupancy tax will be earmarked for the work. That's the same amount of money that was allocated last year for work on the convention center.

"Some stuff you'll see, some stuff you won't see. I think there's some elevator work. Some stuff in the dressing rooms," Councilman Mark Scott said. "There's one of the hallways, the flooring in one of the exhibit space rooms. So it's stuff you'll see and some stuff you won't see."

With an additional $3 million already put aside for renovation at the Center, Scott says in total, more than $5 million will be spent on improvements at the Center this year.
