City Council Unanimously Approves First Female City Attorney

Another glass ceiling was shattered at City Hall Tuesday as City Council unanimously approved the city's first ever female city attorney.

Roxanne Pais Cotroneo was selected by City Manager Ron Olson to replace Carlos Valdez, who resigned to run for a local judgeship. Over the last 25 years, Cotroneo has served as an assistant city attorney in Dallas, a special U.S. attorney and the city attorney in Harlingen.

"I have an understanding of the community's perspective because I have been born and raised and visited the area ever since I was born and raised here, and I understand that the community's voice is most important," Cotroneo said.
