City Initiative Against Wrong-Way Parking Seems to Work

A City initiative seems to be working when it comes to stopping people who park the wrong way or block sidewalks in residential areas.

Back on Aug. 1, the City began a ticket-writing campaign to get drivers to park correctly. In some neighborhoods there were hundreds of violations, but now things have reportedly turned around.

"We've seen a really heavy compliance on that one since we started enforcing that," said Marc Denson, Parking Control supervisor. "I can't even tell you how many thank you's I have had call in and people who have disabilities that weren't able to get down their sidewalks calling in. We really appreciate that."

The number of tickets handed out for wrong-way parking and blocking sidewalks has dropped 80-percent since the campaign began.
