City Leaders Consider Another Utility Bill Increase

City leaders are soon expected to approve a fee for street improvements, and now, budget writers say they may be asking for an increase in utility fees.

"Possibly two to three dollars more per household, per month," Assistant City Manager Oscar Martinez said.

Martinez said the as yet to be determined increase is needed to repair aging and worn out sewer and water lines throughout the city. He said the utility rate hike, added with the proposed street user fee, could increase residents' bills by as much as $10 a month by this time next year.

As you can imagine, some residents were not happy to hear this news.

City leaders said they are working hard to find ways to minimize any increase, and it may not be that high by the time City Council votes on it in May.
