City to Help Bring Big-Name Entertainment to Corpus Christi

Council members approved the idea of appropriating $600,000 in unspent money from last year's budget, and spend it this year on attracting more big-name entertainment to the American Bank Center.

Proponents said many communities across the country have set aside money to pay upfront costs to attract those big name shows. That's why Corpus Christi decided to setup its own fund.

What's not clear at this point is why it wasn't spent last year.

"This was an item that I guess fell off the radar with the transition of assistant city managers," Assistant City Manager Wes Pierson said.

So now the American Bank Center should have more money available for the marketing and promotion aimed at bringing in those big events.
