Collegiate High School Students Working for the City

They say there is no better way to prepare for a career than getting on-the-job training, which is just what some area high schoolers are receiving this semester.

Students from the Collegiate High School at Del Mar College are spending part of their school day working at the City of Corpus Christi's Engineering Services Department.

They are studying various branches of engineering, and are required to spend a minimum of 10 hours per week with the department. Their job description is varied and challenging.

"It's been two weeks and it's awesome," said Gissel Gardea, a student at Collegiate High School.

The students are not just getting experience, but they are also getting paid minimum wage.
