Contractor Hired to Help City with Storm Debris

It has been over two months since that major hail storm back in early May, and the City is still cleaning up debris.

The storm did extensive damage to the Northwest part of town. There was so much debris that outside contractors had to be hired, the City paying them a total of $482,000.

Once that job was done, it was back to the regular route. The only problem is crews are now weeks behind schedule.

So a contractor has been hired again to come in and help they City's Solid Waste Department play catch up. That is costing the City an additional $150,000.

"We're somewhat exposed because, if a storm does blow in and that brush is still on the street, it could be very serious in terms of flying projectiles and flying debris and so forth," Assistant City Manager Oscar Martinez said.

The contractors should be on the job sometime this week. They will be concentrating on the south-central part of the city, along McArdle and Everhart.
